American fashion designer Alexander Wang once again teams up with Adidas Originals on a collaborative range of sportswear garments. For Spring Summer 2018 drop three, the new wave of athletic gear is inspired by manufacturing errors and unique flaws that are created during the production process. The range consisting of windbreaker jackets, soccer jerseys, shorts, and sneakers. Black and blood orange are colors prominently featured in the collection, along with slight hits of white pixilated graphics, adding a bit of contrast. Each item in the collection is branded with Adidas Originals by Alexander Wang’s signature upside-down Adidas Trefoil. The collection footwear highlights include the Turnout Trainer styled sneaker in two bold colorways. Both running inspired models are new issues.

About Adidas Originals x Alexander Wang.

Since Adidas has been around for nearly a hundred years the brand has undoubtedly evolved over time. Yet, the company that originally caught people’s attention through creating Olympic medal winning sports shoes has managed to maintain a classic athletic style, firmly positioning itself as a go to brand for sport as well as style. Adidas’s history begins in 1924 with two German brothers and a washroom. The Adidas founder Adi Dassler and Rudi Dassler began producing shoes in their mother’s laundry room in the small town of Herzogenaurach, Germany. The desire was to create the ultimate sport footwear for athletes around the world. From here the brothers began the Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory) which was to be the birth of the Adidas shoe brand. Taking the classic trefoil logo that used to represent all Adidas products, in 1997 the Adidas originals range was created to encompass the brand’s heritage products. It includes some of Adidas’s most memorable and most loved trainers such as the Spezial and Superstar range. Since the brand has grown on to modernizing sportswear under the originals category, collaboration with designer fashion houses and namesake brands. The collaboration with Alexander Wang is a prime example of Adidas’s modern approach to sports fashion.

Alexander Wang is creative director of the eponymous label he launched in 2005, aged 21. Wang’s foray into fashion began after he dropped out of the Parsons School of Design in 2004 to start his own label, initially creating a knitwear collection based on six unisex silhouettes. Wang was initially supported in his venture by his family: his brother assumed the role of chief financial advisor, his sister-in-law acted as chief principal officer, and the designer was able to utilize family connections to source production from China. His label soon evolved into a sleek but fully realized women’s ready-to-wear collection; Wang debuted his first runway collection for Autumn/Winter 2007 at New York Fashion Week. In December 2012 Wang was appointed creative director of Balenciaga, succeeding Nicolas Ghesquière at the storied French house. Wang’s debut collection for the brand was positively received, despite having faced skepticism about his ability to fill Nicolas Ghesquière's shoes. In July 2015, however, it was announced that Balenciaga and Kering Group decided not to renew the American designer's contract. Alexander Wang now produces both menswear and womenswear main line collections, a diffusion line — T by Alexander Wang — for men and women, footwear, and accessories. In 2011, Wang’s entry into menswear was noted by GQ, who named him Best Menswear Designer. In the same year, he won the CFDA Award for Best Accessory Designer. Wang’s aesthetic remains true throughout his various lines and has inspired an entire generation of women to dress in his sportswear-inspired looks.
